Young Woman Killed in Fatal Bus-Scooter Collision at Nanthoor Circle

A 26-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic road accident near Nanthoor Circle in Mangaluru late on Wednesday night when a private bus collided with the scooter on which she was traveling as a pillion rider.

The victim has been identified as Deepti, a resident of Ballalbagh area in the city. According to preliminary police reports, both the scooter and the private bus were heading in the same direction from Shivabagh towards Nanthoor when the bus rammed into the two-wheeler near the Nanthoor bus stand. The impact caused the scooter to fall, and Deepti was crushed under the wheels of the bus, resulting in her instantaneous death due to severe injuries.

The scooter rider sustained injuries in the collision and was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Details about the rider's condition remain limited, but authorities have confirmed that medical care is being provided.

Local traffic police responded quickly to the scene, registering a case against the bus driver for negligent driving. Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident, including potential overspeeding or failure to maintain safe distance on the busy stretch.

Nanthoor Circle has long been identified as an accident-prone location in Mangaluru, with multiple fatal incidents reported over the years due to heavy vehicular movement, converging roads, and inadequate traffic management measures. Residents and road safety advocates have repeatedly called for infrastructure improvements, such as better signaling and road widening, to prevent such tragedies.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for enhanced road safety protocols in the coastal city, particularly at high-risk junctions like Nanthoor.
