A tight-knit Amish community in Jay County, Indiana, is grieving after four members of a work crew were killed in a collision involving a semi-truck and the van transporting them.
The victims have been identified as Henry Eicher, aged 50; Menno Eicher, 25; Paul Eicher, 19; and Simon Girod, 23. The men were returning from or heading to a job site when the crash occurred.
The van's driver, Donald Stipp, who was hired to transport the Amish workers, underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the incident and is currently recovering. Family members report that other passengers in the van also suffered injuries, though specifics on their conditions have not been released.
Stipp's family has established a fundraising campaign to assist with medical expenses and support during his recovery period. The tragedy underscores the reliance of Amish communities on hired drivers for transportation to workplaces outside their horse-and-buggy travel range.
